How random matching works on LankaChat

Random chat is one-to-one and starts only when another available person is also waiting. You press Start, LankaChat gives you a temporary anonymous identity, and the system tries to connect you with the next available match.

Each match is separate from the last one. If the conversation ends, you can move on and wait for another person without carrying over your previous chat. That makes random chat useful for quick conversations, light introductions, and low-pressure social discovery.

Response time depends on how many people are online at that moment. Some matches happen quickly, while others take a little longer, especially late at night or during quieter periods.

What to do when no one is available

If no one is available right away, wait a short moment and try again. Random matching depends on two people being ready at the same time, so a quiet screen does not always mean the feature is broken.

It also helps to come back at a different time of day. Availability can change fast, especially on mobile, where people join for a few minutes and leave just as quickly.

If you want to keep talking while waiting, open the main text chat rooms or the video chat page. That gives you another way to meet people instead of staying stuck on one empty queue.

How to leave a bad chat quickly

If a match feels rude, sexual, threatening, or simply uncomfortable, leave immediately. You do not owe anyone a reply, an explanation, or extra time just because the match was made automatically.

Use the next, skip, cancel, or leave action shown in the random chat interface. Those controls are there so you can end a session fast and protect your own comfort.

If the behavior crosses a line, report it if reporting is available in that flow. Leaving quickly is the right move when a chat stops feeling safe or useful.

How to start a conversation without sounding like spam

Keep your first message short, human, and easy to answer. A simple opener like "Hi, how is your evening going?" works better than pasting the same long intro into every match.

Ask one clear question or mention one topic, such as music, studies, work, cricket, or daily life in Sri Lanka. Specific openers make it easier for the other person to reply without guessing what you want.

Avoid sending repeated greetings, copied lines, or multiple messages in a row before the other person answers. That usually reads as spam and makes people leave faster.

Safety rules for anonymous chat

Stay anonymous for as long as possible. Do not share your full name, phone number, address, school, workplace, passwords, banking details, or private photos with someone you just met.

Be careful with requests to move immediately to another app. If someone pressures you to leave the platform, send money, or prove who you are with personal content, end the chat.

Trust your instincts. If a match feels manipulative, fake, or overly pushy, leave and start a new session. Anonymous chat works best when you keep boundaries clear and use the controls early.
